Letter to Parents

Dear Parents,

We are writing this letter to give you a few ideas of how to work with your child at home. These ideas are meant to be fun ways to reinforce the skills taught in kindergarten. There are many different games on the market that can be modified or changed to accommodate your needs. Some examples are: Memory, Twister, Bingo, Old Maid or Go Fish. You could combine letters with pictures of beginning letter sounds, capital with lowercase letters, numbers with sets, numbers with combinations, rhyming words, words of the week, or even use shapes. The easiest way to start would be to make a set of cards that can be interchanged and used in Memory, Old Maid or Go Fish. You can use the same materials in a variety of ways. You could modify a Twister mat and add pictures or words and they have to spin to see where they go or what they do. For example if they spun an Aa, they would have to look for the apple to stand on. A few games that are great, as is, are Perfection, Hi Ho Cherry-O, Operation and Lego’s. These games help children develop their fine motor skills. There are many different ideas of things that you could do with your child. These are just a few to get you started. We hope they were helpful. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail your child’s teacher. Have Fun!!
